New Year’s detox - but not in the conventional sense

1. Remove plastics

Plastics are a big one for affecting sperm quality and egg health. They mimic hormones and lock into their receptors. Avoid plastic-free products and opt for glass storage containers or stainless steel water bottles. Avoid till receipts and take-away coffee cup lids.

2. Buy more organic/grow your own

Vegetables and herbs contain herbicides and pesticides that can disrupt hormones and affect egg health and sperm quality. Wash foods thoroughly before eating. Also, look at meat and dairy products, as these contain added growth products and antibiotics.

3. Filter your water

Our water supplies contain many toxins such as heavy metals, Chlorine, excess fluoride, herbicides and pesticides and even hormones such as oestrogen from the contraceptive pill and HRT. Invest in a good filter to support fertility and hormone health such as Fibroids and heavy and painful periods. i even advise clients to wash vegetables and cook in filtered water.

4. Slowly replace personal care products

Personal care products such as make-up, shampoos, creams, skincare products, deodorants, and toothpaste, unfortunately, the list is endless, contain harmful chemicals such as phthalates, sulfates, and heavy metals, and if we use these regularly, can really start to accumulate in our cells and disrupt hormone health and fertility.

5. Lower blue light exposure

Blue light blocks that all important sleep hormone melatonin, which helps us to get good quality sleep. melatonin is also in the follicular fluid, which the female eggs bathe in. Melatonin is a powerful antioxidant to supports egg health. there have been some reports of young girls starting periods sooner due to excessive blue light exposure. thinking about getting out in natural sunlight daily and limiting screen time, especially before bed.

6. Add more green into your home

Adding a variety of plants around the house helps to purify the air. We are surrounded by toxins, whether from outside pollution or indoor emissions from furniture. Adding different plants around the home helps to neutralise the air and aid a better environment to live in.
